1. Introduction
---------------

  The FarSync Drivers for Linux software support the FarSync range of PCI 
  Express cards and USB devices that provide connectivity with synchronous 
  serial data communications lines.

  FarSync for Linux Version 5 introduces support for FarSite's very latest PCIe
  card, the FarSync K2Ee.
    
  As part of the changes in this release, it is specifically targeted at 
  supporting:
  
  a) the following FarSync card/devices:
  
  Farsync K2Ee
  FarSync T2Ee
  FarSync T4Ue
  FarSync T4Ee
  FarSync Flex
  
  b) 64-bit environments
  
  c) the char-based FarSync API - as previously available when earlier versions of
     the driver were installed in *OEM mode*
  
  
  If you require earlier FarSync support for:
  
  a) other types of FarSync cards
  
  b) 32-bit environments
  
  c) WAN mode
  
  d) existing legacy applications that have been already developed to use the 
     RAW or HDLC-based variants of the FarSync API
 
  Please use FarSync for Linux Version 4.x.x instead since these features were 
  deprecated in V4 and removed in V5.


2. Getting Started
------------------

  For infomation on how to get started with your FarSync card/device please 
  refer to the "Getting Started" section of the FarSync Linux Driver 
  Installation Guide (FarSync Driver Installation Guide.pdf) that is located
  in the current directory.
  

3. Changes
----------

  The following new features have been introduced in this release (V5).

    1) Support for the FarSync K2Ee

  The following features were deprecated in V4 and removed in V5.

    1) Support for FarSync cards/device types other than those listed above in Section 1a)

    2) Support for 32-bit environments

    3) WAN mode

    4) RAW and HDLC-based variants of the FarSync API


4. Known Issues

  Custom Clock rates are not supported on Kernel versions less than 2.6.14.

  In async mode, the maximum receive rates on ports B, C and D of a T4Ee
  is 9600 bps.  Port A may receive at the maximum async rate of 115200.
