FarLinX Connect Mini - A HDLC to TCP Converter and HDLC over TCP Bridge

The FarLinX Connect Mini is a compact multi mode HDLC bridging appliance. It allows HDLC lines to be bridged securely across the Internet or other /IP networks and also enables HDLC connection data to be adapted to operate over a TCP connection.

All this is easy to securely manage from your browser. There are also daily activity logs with a selectable level of detail, automatically archived on a daily basis. The SNMP support provides alerts for numerous different conditions including critical events such as line down and line up. A line monitor supplied permits analysis of the HDLC line.

FarSync T4Ee - our most advanced PCIe synchronous / asynchronous card released

FarSync T4EeThe FarSync T4Ee is a highly flexible PCIe communications card featuring 4 high speed synchronous / asynchronous / bisynchronous ports with NRZ, NRZI, Manchester Encoding, Conditioned Di-Phase, FM0 and FM1 line signal encoding, fully flexible clocking and a full range of interface signals for RS530, RS449, RS232, RS485 (2 and 4 wire), V.35 and X.21.

At the centre of the card design is a FarSite Communication Controller, a high flexible CPLD that allows the extended range of communications facilities to be supported plus having the capability for further modes of operation to be added, including special or unusual protocols on a custom design basis. Line termination can be software configured line by line.

There is a very wide range of internal clock speeds that can be generated, up to 10 Mbits/s with a total card bandwidth of 64Mbits/s plus the capability for custom clock speeds to be supported through simple software configuration. The 5 clock generators on board permit very flexible routing of clocks between ports including multiplication or division of clocks speed while maintaining clock phase and feeding clocks from one port to other ports.

The card is the 4 port big brother for the 2 port FarSync T2Ee.

Line speed measurement by measuring the lines round trip delay over a number of 'pings' and displaying results in a graph. Can be particularly useful for Wireless network performance.

Test of RS485 multi-drop networks including indicating which part of the cable is incorrectly wired

Support for custom test patterns, the test patterns can be captured from a line or configured by hand

Time based tests as well a Frame count based tests

FarSite Communications chosen to provide the first sensor technology deployment for the recently announced city scale Internet of Things network in Milton Keynes

The consortium of leading technology companies, UK Technology Catapults, Milton Keynes Council and the Open University have announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to build a city-wide, open access, demonstration network for Machine to Machine (M2M) communications and the Internet of Things (IoT). The network will be based on the Weightless™ communications standard. The consortium has chosen FarSite’s netBin™ technology to be the first sensor system to be deployed in the network.

netBin fitted to a recycling binnetBin is an intelligent bin sensing system which monitors containers such as waste or recycling bins, so that only full bins are emptied. This reduces heavy lorry road traffic, pollution, congestion and transport costs as every collection is optimised; staff productivity is improved and the environmental problems of overflowing bins are eliminated. The low power, assured data delivery and long range attributes of the forthcoming Milton Keynes Weightless-based network makes it ideal for waste bin sensors, providing many years of maintenance free operation and flexible deployment. The netBin technology will be fitted to existing waste containers on-site, keeping the cost of installing the new technology to a minimum.

Neul and FarSite Communications announce co-operation for delivering early Internet of Things (IoT) applications

FarSite today announced their co-operation with machine-to-machine (M2M) networks developer, Neul Ltd.

FarSite is working closely with Neul to develop a range of M2M / IoT products using Neul’s NT1001 module to communicate with NeulNET™ Low-Power, Wide-Area Networks (LP-WAN). The developments include:

  • netBin – An intelligent bin sensing system which monitors containers such as waste or recycling bins so that only full bins are emptied. FarSite supports Weightless; a wireless protocol for the IoT (Internet of Things)

Weightless is a Machine to Machine (M2M) protocol for the wireless management of  IoT devices using unregulated whitespace frequencies (unused channels in the TV frequency spectrum).

Over the last 18 months the Weightless protocol, under the management of the Weightless SIG (Special Interest Group), has been transformed from an idea into a full specification. Version 1.0 of the specification is now close to completion. Weightless devices can have more than a 5 kilometre range and operate with very low power consumption and low cost. It has exceptional building penetration and with more than a 100,000 devices manageable from a single base station it allows networked devices to be used in ways that were not formerly possible. FarLinX Mini Gateway

The FarLinX Mini Gateway is the smallest member of the FarLinX Gateway range - it can handle your smaller scale single X.25 line to TCP/IP migration requirements. It offers many of the same features as in the larger FarLinX X25 Gateway range but at a lower price, in a smaller footprint and lower energy consumption.

The Gateway supports XOT to X.25 switching, X.25 to TCP data translation and connection routing, TCP to XOT, a Triple-X PAD, and a Host PAD. All this is easily managed from your browser.

FarSite Release version 3.1 of the FarSync XOT Runtime for Linux

FarSite has made a new release of the popular FarSync XOT Runtime for Linux software. The version 3.1 release features:

  • Support for up to 4,095 simultaneous sessions, previously the maximum was 1,000.
  • The TCP/IP handling now includes support for IPv6 addressing.
  • TCP/IP keepalives now enabled by default and can be selected or deselected for each connection definition. Use of keepalives improves the response of the XOT to TCP/IP network problems, providing the Applications with earlier notification of network failures.
  • The non standard XOT keepalives used by some XOT implementations are also supported.
  • Supports version 3.0 kernels and the more recent Linux distributions by Redhat, SuSE, Debian, Ubuntu, Slackware and Fedora.
  • Improved session establishment speed and data throughput performance.

New Protocols and API enhancements for FarSync adapters

FarSite has made a major new release to the FarSync adapter support on Windows it includes:

  • A new easier and quicker to use API, FsWinAPI, implemented as a superset of the older SDCI API.
  • Bit streaming encoding and decoding now embedded in the driver for faster application development and improved performance, particularly at higher line speeds with it's intelligent adaptive buffering.
  • An API to LAPB, V.120 and G.704.
  • Support for 64 bit as well as 32 bit applications.
  • New external adaptive clocking support offered by the FarSync TE1e for E1 lines fully supported by the API. This is particularly useful for DAB and DVB operation.
  • FarSync Flex can now appear as standard COM port on Windows.
  • Additional sample applications.

FarSite releases 2 PMC (PCI Mezzanine) synchronous 2 port adapters

FarSite's range of high quality synchronous adapter continues to expand with the release of 2 synchronous adapters with PMC bus connections. These versatile industrial temperature range products meet the needs of military and other customers who require industrial specification products.

The products which are already in use by our customers in military applications can be conduction or air cooled.FarSync T2U PMC sync cards

The products with support for Windows and Linux include low level drivers that allows access to the communications features available in the hardware. The adapter can optionally use the host's standard TCP/IP protocol stack to allow access to IP based networks such as the Internet. The FarSync SDK provides a Developers Toolkit for the product. The Linux driver support little endian and big endian memory storage formats.

The PMC adapters will support 2 synchronous ports working at speeds of up to 10 Mbits/s. Two versions of the adapter are available - the FarSync T2U-PMC-R supporting rear I/O and the FarSync T2U-PMC-F
supporting both rear and front I/O
.

Both the front and rear I/O connectors can support RS232, X.21, RS530, RS422, RS449 and V.35 network interfaces.

Adapter carriers allow PMC cards to work in a cPCI or a VME based chassis.

Conditioned Diphase, FM1 and FM0 line signalling added to FarSync T4E+ adapter - 23 Jun 2011

FarSync T4E+

The FarSync T4E+ and FarSync X25 T4E+ adapters are now being supplied with Conditioned Diphase, FM0 and FM1 line signalling encoding in addition to the previously supported Manchester Encoding and NRZ.

The self clocking Conditioned Diphase, FM0 and FM1 all run at line rates from 1,200 baud up to 10Mbps on the adapter.

Initially just the Windows drivers support the new features, drivers for Linux will follow soon, look out for a later announcement on this. All FarSync T4E+ hardware being shipped from today will support Conditioned Diphase, FM0 and FM1 network signalling standards.

A new PCI Express format E1 card with BNC and RJ48 connectors - 4 April 2011

FarSync TE1eFarSite has introduced a new PCI Express E1 card, called the FarSync TE1e it has all the same features as the PCI FarSync TE1 but in a PCIe format plus an external clock synchronisation through a SMA connector supporting external clocks speeds of 10Mhz, 5Mhz, 2.048Mhz and 1Mhz.. This makes the card particularly suitable for some DAB applications.

Using LabVIEW with FarSync adapters - 19 January 2011

FarSite is pleased to announce that it has produced a LabVIEW example application that demonstrates how to use the FarSync adapter interface from LabVIEW. This allows LabVIEW applications to be quickly developed to communicate with the wide range of FarSync adapters and hence have access to the flexible communications interface support offered by these adapters.

The example VI (LabVIEW executable/program) will be included in the FarSync SDK.

FarLinX XOT Gateway- 13 January 2011

FarSite has introduced a new product to the FarLinX Gateway range, the FarLinX XOT Gateway. This new Gateway allows connections from TCP to be routed directly to XOT (X.25 over TCP/IP) this eliminates the need for the connection to be first routed through a physical X.25 link.

The product allows X.25 to be eliminated from one end of a mixed TCP/IP - X.25 network just leaving short X.25 lines to connect to legacy equipment thus reducing network complexity.

FarLinX X25 Gateway - 13 January 2011

FarSite have introduced a whole range of enhancements for the FarLinX X25 Gateway with a major upgrade to the firmware. This new firmware version 2.4 is shipping on all new Gateways, older Gateways can also be upgraded with the new version of firmware.

New Features:

  • The Gateway can route directly between TCP/IP and XOT as a configuration option.
  • The Gateway performance and general responsiveness has been improved when running large numbers of sessions with a high X.25 packet load.
  • A Current Sessions activity page has been added, this displays the status of sessions currently in progress on the Gateway that can be sorted in a number of different ways.
  • New dynamic session mode XDRPD added which allows greater control and information on the status of the X.25 session than supported by the earlier DRPD mode. DRPD is still supported for backward compatibility.
  • X.29 Host support can now operate with DRPD and  XDRPD mode connections.
  • The Line Monitor support has been completely rewritten. The Line Monitor is now a standalone application that can be run on a local or remote LAN. This FSMon application can monitor multiple lines on multiple Gateways if required and traces can be saved for later analysis. The frame format is also compatible with the popular Wireshark so now Wireshark can be used to monitor the Gateway if preferred.
  • The activity and transaction logs can now be optionally sent to a remote machine for logging using the syslog mechanism.
  • A number of improvement have been made to the GUI to simplify the ease of configuration.
  • There have been improvements to existing sample applications and new ones added for customers using DRPD and the new XDRPD dynamic modes.
